Coco MOVIE Review

The movie depicts lively Mexican Mayan Culture and its traditions.

Miguel is a small boy living in a Mexican village with dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his great grandfather Ernesto De La Cruz. This is despite family's traditional ban on music. Miguel' s love for music and his interest to know more about his great grandfather leads him to the colourful and stunning Land of Dead. He embarks on this journey along with a person called Hector who later becomes his friend.

Will he be successful in unravelling the secrets of his grandfather? Will he be able to achieve his childhood dreams of becoming a musician? What are the obstacles he will face in this journey? Will his family, who is against music support him? For this you will have to watch the movie.

The movie is colourful, enjoyable and splendid.

The characters of the movie are very good especially Hector and Miguel. Other characters are also good and contribute well in the movie.

The story and direction of the movie is original and novel.

The message in the movie is also very good and will connect with everyone.

Music of the movie is also very nice and is in sync with the movie which is happening.

Disney Pixar Studios always come up with interesting subjects and ideas which are given innovative treatment and are meant for all age groups. This is what puts Disney Pixar well ahead of other animation movie studios.

Overall the movie is a must watch for all age groups like all Disney productions. Kids will surely love it. Don't miss it.

Tumhari Sullu Movie Review

Movie is the story of a middle-class housewife Sullu (Vidya Balan) who is enjoying her life to the fullest with her husband and her 11 year old son. Sullu's husband Ashok (Manav Kaul) is a manager of a tailor shop. Sullu wants to pursue her dreams of becoming something, but is unable to do so. Sullu has just won a radio contest and receives a pressure cooker as a gift. One day she gets a call from Maria (Neha Dhupia) working at the radiostation Radio Wow who offers her a job as a Radio Jockey. Sullu decides to take up this job not just to pursue her dreams, but to also fulfil her love for music.

Will she be successful in her job as a Radio Jockey? What circumstances will arise? Will this affect her family and her RJ job? To answer all these questions you will have to watch the movie.

The movie is slow to start with but picks up later  However the movie screenplay could have been been better in some places.

Vidya Balan gives a wonderful performance as a housewife but she could have been better, considering her performances in previous movies. Of the supporting cast Manav Kaul, Neha Dhupia and Vijay Maurya stand out with their performances.

Music of the movie is good.

Direction by Suresh Triveni is very good. The subject and story of the movie are fresh and will relate to common people.

Overall Tumhari Sullu is a must watch

Secret Superstar Movie Review

The movie revolves around Vadodara in Gujarat where Insia a teenager studying in a school has dreams of becoming a singer. Insia (Zaira Wasim) gets encouragement and support to pursue her dreams from her mother Najma (Meher Vij), but her father Farookh (played by Raj Arjun) is conservative and is against the daughter purusing her dreams. He also puts restrictions on his family members including his wife.

Insia also has a friend Chintan (Tirth Sharma) who is very supportive, likes her and is ready to do anything for her so as to make her happy and help her pursue her dreams.

She uploads her video on you tube with her face covered with burqa to keep her identity as a secret. She becomes an overnight sensation for her voice with over a million hits across the globe on You Tube and other social networking websites like Twitter and others.

Insia comes across Shakti Kumar (Aamir Khan) a music director from Mumbai who is having his own family problems and is known in the media for the wrong reasons.

Will Shakti Kumar be able to realise the true potential of Insia? Will Insia be able to fulfiill her dreams? What will happen if Insia's father comes to know of her dreams? Will her mother continue to support Insia inspite of her father's restrictions? For that you will have to watch the movie.

The movie is gripping right from the beginning to the end with a tight screenplay.

The music of the movie is amazing, melodious and probably one of the best soundtracks of the year. It is also in sync with the movie. All credit to Amit Trivedi, one of his best so far. The lyrics are also nicely penned by Kausar Munir. Even the new sensation Meghna Mishra who has lent her voice to Insia is a talent to watch out for and is a hit with this movie.

Zaira Wasim as Insia is the star of the movie and she does a brilliant job which is also one of the movie's strengths. She holds her own despite having big actors like Aamir Khan and emerges a winner. Credit to Aamir Khan for realising her potential and bringing her forward in this movie and him taking a backseat. Meher Vij as her mother has also acted well and lends great support to her daughter. The other supporting performances of Tirth and Insia' s brother are also very good. Aamir Khan also does a great job in a cameo as the struggling music director. The father Raj Arjun also does a fine job as the conservative father of Insia.

Secret Superstar is a movie about pursuing dreams and has that old world feel to it which is well written and directed by first time director Advait Chandan.

Aamir Khan the perfectionist can do no wrong and has once again after Dangal given a strong message through this movie to the society.

Overall Secret Superstar should be watched for its theme, starcast and performances. It is for all age groups including family audiences.

Lucknow Central Movie Review

Kishen(Farhan Akhtar) from a small town Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh has dreams to become an aspiring singer and make it big by having a music band of his own. One fateful day Kishen is accused of a murder which lands him in jail and eventually Lucknow Central jail where he is awaiting the court judgement of the murder case. One day an NGO worker Gayatri Kashyap(Diana Penty) is compelled to form a Band of Jail Inmates in Lucknow Central f where she come across Kishen and their paths cross each other. Kishen accepts Gayatri's offer and promises to form a band for the competition which requires three more people. He befriends four jail inmates who come from different backgrounds and have their own stories. Their names are Dikkat(Inaamulhaq), Victor(Deepak Dobriyal), Purushottam(Rajesh Sharma) and Parminder(Gippy Grewal)

The dramatic narrative of Lucknow Central portrays how Kishen’s life progresses in jail and how music not only becomes an intricate part of his journey, but for the rest of the band as well.

The movie theme is different as it is based on a music competition of jail inmates. Just recently there was a movie directed by Habib Faisal called Qaidi Band which is also believed to be on similar lines like Lucknow Central. Movie is slow in the beginning but eventually picks up later and becomes gripping.

The movie deals with emotions and aspirations.

Direction of the movie by first time director Ranjit Tiwari are good. The script and the story are also good.

Farhan,Inamulhaq,Rajesh Sharma,Deepak Dobriyal and Gippy Grewal all forming the lead cast give great performances. Diana Penty is also good. Ronit Roy is ok.

Music of the movie is also good especially the recreated song from the movie Monsoon Wedding Kaavan Kaavan, the melodious songs Meer-E-Kaarvan and Rangdaari. The music is in sync with the movie.

Overall Lucknow Central is a good movie which should be watched for its theme and performances.

Bareilly Ki Barfi

Bareilly Ki Barfi revolves around a crazy family in Bareilly. The girl in the family Bitti (Kriti Sanon) is a young contemporary girl working in the electricity department and is apple of her father's eye. Bitti's mother wants to get her daughter Bitti married to a good family, but all her marriage proposals end up getting rejected. Bitti is quite heartbroken with this due to her virginity reason.and decides to run away from home. At the train station before she is about to catch a train she stumbles across this book Bareilly Ki Barfi". She is so influenced by the book because the female character described is the same as what Bitti is in real life. She decides to find out about the author Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkumar Rao) as she is in love with him and thus wants to meet him. Another character Chirag Dubey(Aayushman Khurana) is running a bookstore who owns a printing press and publishes books. Bitti though Chirag starts the search for the author and Chirag becomes her good friend. Chirag starts liking Bitti and falls in love with her.

Will Bitti be able to find out about Pritam Vidrohi? Who is Pritam Vidrohi? Will Chirag help Bitti in finding Pritam Vidrohi? Are there any twists and turns expected? Is there a love triangle? For that you will have to watch the movie.

The movie is interesting as its is not a typical romcom as usually seen and thus the story line is also good and new.

The actors have all done a great job in the movie. Of the performances Rajkumar Rao steals the show as Pritam Vidrohi he is too good and is an established actor. Kriti Sanon also gives a good performance as Bitti and shows she has the potential to become a future star. Aayushman Khurana as Chirag is also good. The friend of Chirag who appears to be a debutant is also good. The other supporting actors are also good. Seema Pahwa as Bitti's mother is fantastic and so is the father Pankaj Tripathi.

The music of the movie is also good. The dance number Sweety Tera Drama and Twist which are already hits are groovy. and the two melodious numbers Tu Nazam Nazam and Main Bairaagi are really good.

Ashwini Iyer Tiwari's direction is very good and she delivers another winner after the critically acclaimed Nil Battey Sannata. The story is written by the husband Nitesh Tiwari(of Dangal fame). The movie is based on a French novel "Ingredients of the Book"

Overall Bareilly Ki Barfi is a slice of life movie and a sweet one would definitely like to have. It has a simple story and is entertaining for all age groups. Recommended

Mubarakan Movie Review

This is a story of two identical cousins Karan and Charan(both played by Arjun Kapoor). Karan stays in London and Charan stays in Punjab in India. Both the cousins are poles apart in their personalities. Karan is flamboyant and street-smart, while Charan is simple and honest. Karan is in love with Sweety(Ileana D'Cruz) and Charan is going around with Nafisa(Neha Sharma). Both Karan and Charan are unable to communicate to their family about their respective relationships. This leads to Jitto (Ratna Pathak Shah) Karan's mother fixing Charan's alliance with Binkle(Athiya Shetty), daughter of a wealthy family in London. Charan seeks help of his middle-aged uncle Kartar(Anil Kapoor)to somehow end this alliance. Kartar does stop this alliance, but this leads to a big tiff between Jitto and her brother (Pawan Malhotra), who is Charan's father.

Eventually Charan's family then fixes Charan's alliance with Sweety in Punjab and Karan's family fixes Karan's alliance with Sweety.  Charan is not happy about this because he likes Nafisa. Both Karan and Charan are in a soup. When Kartar tries to help them out it leads to confusion and chaos. Will Kartar be a saviour to get Karan and Charan out of this situation? What will happen to Karan and Charan's respective relationships? Will both Karan and Charan be able to communicate with their families about their respective relationships. Will this affect their respective family relations? What happens next for this you will have to watch the movie

The story is not new as it is a tried and tested formula. But what keeps one glued to the movie is the treatment of the story, comedy and humour throughout. There are emotional moments in the movie which are also good.

Anees Bazmee who is known for helming clean comedies like Singh Is King,Welcome,Ready and Welcome Back, has another winner in the form of Mubarakan.

Of the performances, Arjun Kapoor the lead has acted very well as both Karan and Charan. Anil Kapoor also shines as Kartar. Ratna Pathak Shah and Pawan Malhotra are also very good. Ileana D'Cruz and Athiya Shetty are good too. Ileana is improving as an actor with every movie. Athiya maybe a talent to watch. The other supporting actors are also good.

The music of the movie is not bad especially the Goggle song and Hawa Hawa which are already chartbusters and the other song Haathon Mein Thhe Hasty is melodious and nice.

Direction of Anees Bazmee as always is very good.

Overall this is another family entertainer which will entertain the family audiences of all age groups. One looks forward to such family entertainers.

Go for it

MOM Movie Review

Devki played by Sridevi is a Biology Teacher in the same class where her daughter eldest Arya (Sajal Ali) is studying. Devki has a perfect family married with two daughters. Arya is a very sensitive girl and does not treat Devki as her mother, as she feels that it is the daughter who enter the mother's life and not vice-versa. Regardless of this Devki still treats Arya well and is hoping to get love from her daughter some day. One night an unfortunate incident happens where Arya is kidnapped and abducted by goons in a car. One could very well imagine what could have happened in the car. This incident widens the distance between the mother and daughter, where return looks unlikely. Will Devki be able to find out the truth and give justice to her daughter? You will have to watch the movie to find out what happens next.

The movie is a gripping thriller right from the beginning till the end and keeps you at the edge of the seat. But there is also some unnecessary drama in the movie which could have been avoided. However, this does not affect the movie at all.

Of the starcast, being her 300th movie this is undoubtedly Sridevi' s movie and her best performance till date, as a caring mother. In the supporting cast, Nawazuddin Siddique as always is entertaining, Akshaye Khanna who plays the cop also gives a good performance, Abhimanyu Singh is menacing and does a fine job, the husband of Devki played by Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui also leaves his mark. The other supporting actors are also good.

The background music of the movie is chilling and the the song O Sona Tere Liye sung by A.R. Rahman is really nice.

The movie is well-directed without any cliches. This being director Ravi Udyawar's first movie is applaudable for the subject and it's treatment, as the subject is very common in today's times.

Overall MOM is a must watch and is recommended.

Hindi Medium Review

Raj Batra is running a successful business of bridal wears in downtown Delhi. Although he is rich, he is not highly educated and is also not fluent in English. His wife on the other hand Meeta aspires to be of a high class culture. Both of them have studied in a Hindi Medium government school. Meeta wants to adamantly get her child Pia admitted into the top English schools so that they can come in the category of high class cultural society of English speaking people in Delhi. The parents also seek the help of a consultant played by Tillotamma Shome. Both the parents try every possibility to get Pia admitted, but fail. They are only left with one chance of getting their child admitted in these schools which is through RTE(Right to Education) quota. Will they be able to grab this opportunity? Will they be successful in getting their child admitted? What are the problems and challenges they will face?

This movie is based on a story of today's times where admission into any top private school is very difficult and challenging for both the parents & the child as they have to go through a no of tests and interviews.

The film is very humorous and also gives a very good moral lesson in the end. The film throughout is never boring and is very engaging.

This is Saket Chaudhary's best movie till date of the three movies he is directed, as it is also thought provoking. His direction is very good.

Of the performances Irfan Khan is absolutely first-rate and his comic timing is also good. He has proven his mettle yet again. Saba Qamar in her debut Hindi movie does a great job as well. The other actors who need a special mention are the consultant Tilotama Shome and Deepak Dobriyal.

The music is also in sync with the movie.

Overall Hindi Medium is a must watch for all parents including their children and not to be missed. Highly recommended.
